Open Data Strategic Plan

The Task

The Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics (MODA) sought to create the first-ever strategic plan for Open Data in New York City in order to advance open data as a tool to support government transparency and resident problem-solving. Public Works Partners partnered with Reboot to facilitate an inclusive planning process to define a set of strategic priorities and initiatives for NYC’s Open Data Program over the next ten years.

Our Strategy

  • Gathered perspectives on open data from a wide range of stakeholders, including civic technology advocates, the City’s Open Data Team, and policy experts
  • Facilitated a two-day convening that brought together stakeholders and policy makers from many backgrounds to define priorities for the strategic plan
  • Recommended implementation strategies, relying on our expertise working with and within New York City government

Project Impact & Outcome

  • Our work positioned MODA to release their strategic plan, The Next Decade of Open Data, which outlines the City’s plan to increase the impact of open data over the next decade.
