Ilan Ackelsberg

Analyst

Ilan is passionate about how we can use public policy, data analysis, research, and advocacy to make cities more equitable and accessible.

Ilan graduated from Oberlin College with a major in Politics and a minor in Computer Science. He focused his studies on the politics of space, nonprofits and NGOs, developing cities, lobbying and special interest groups, and social movements. He is excited to leverage his research, data analysis, and direct service experience to support the Client Services team.
 

Experience
  • Worked as a case manager with a disability services nonprofit in the Philadelphia area; supported individuals enrolled in Pennsylvania’s person-directed-services project craft their support services and utilize community resources to further their goals.
  • Spent a year in northwest Wisconsin in a life-sharing community for people with and without developmental disabilities; supported community members in building life skills through collaborative vocational activities such as organic gardening, baking, animal care, and craft-making.
  • Conducted research on how expat communities, NGOs, and local development initiatives impacted neighborhood and community dynamics in Amman, Jordan.
  • Worked with newly arrived immigrants as a Resettlement Intern at HIAS Pennsylvania.
  • B.A. in Politics, minor in Computer Science from Oberlin College
Outside of Public Works Partners
  • Amateur old time/folk fiddle player and jazz drummer
  • Likes to read, preferably outdoors
  • Recently committed to playing softball once a week in the Bronx
