Podcasts
Favio – Earn Your Leisure

“Earn Your Leisure. It’s a podcast that promotes and highlights ways people of color can achieve financial freedom.”
Jennifer – Gastropod

Image via Spotify
“I really enjoy listening to Gastropod, a podcast that looks at food through the lens of science and history. I’ve been able to learn about the history of the bagel in the US, the connection between citrus fruits and the Italian mafia, and many more fascinating stories!”
Summer – Louder Than a Riot (NPR)

Image via Spotify
“Louder Than A Riot is a fascinating podcast by NPR that goes in-depth on the complex history of rap and mass incarceration in the U.S.”
Jordan – Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Encyclopedia Womannica, Freakonomics Radio

Image via Spotify
“Armchair Expert is about the messiness of being human. The host is actor and director, Dax Shepard (Kristen Bell’s husband), and I find him to be one of the most empathetic interviewers I’ve ever seen. He interviews celebrities (e.g. Ethan Hawke, Common, Salma Hayek, Aly Raisman), primarily with the interest to understand their background, and how they got to where they are today. He’s interested in vulnerability, struggle, and hard work, and less celebrity fluff. It’s a great listen!”
Allison – Call Your Girlfriend

Image via Spotify
“Call Your Girlfriend is a regular listen – two smart feminist BFFs who feel talk about current events, their friendship, and how they’re muddling through life. Lately, they’ve been doing “phone-a-friends” to catch up with their awesome friends and see how they’re dealing with the pandemic. It’s been a delight.”
Emily – Robinhood Snacks

Image via Spotify
“I listen to Robinhood Snacks every day for a brief overview of the market in a fun light. The hosts are very good at keeping the news contemporary in language and easy to “digest”.”
Jasmine – ModernGurlz, D’Angelo Wallace

Image via Youtube
“Not podcasts or music but lately I’ve been listening to/watching a lot of YouTube commentary/analysis videos from channels like ModernGurlz, D’Angelo Wallace, and others. They do a lot of research into topics related to current events, culture (particularly internet culture), fashion, etc., and present them in an interesting way.”
Music
Naomi – Sober Up by AJR, Savage Love by Jawsh 685 x Jason Derulo

Image via Spotify
“Sober Up and Bang!, both by AJR; Savage Love by Jawsh 685 x Jason Derulo – there’s just something about these 3 songs that made me sit up and listen, maybe it’s the rhythm or beat. I also listen to the Hamilton Soundtrack because I love it! And my 14-year-old put together a 9+ hour squeaky clean playlist (no curse words) for when she would hang out in friends’ pools that combine modern and “old” songs.”
Dan – Petestrumentals (Album) by Pete Rock

Image via Spotify
“Not a podcast but one of my favorite all-time albums is Petestrumentals from Pete Rock. I discovered it a long while back but it’s always on rotation. Great for any mood and I definitely recommend for a quiet snowy walk around the City.”
Joel – Disco (Album) by Kylie Minogue

Image via Spotify
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Kylie Minogue’s latest album: Disco. Highly recommend it if you’re pining for days of disco or just need some good pump-up music. I listen to it on my runs!”
Celeste – Faith by Galantis

Image via Spotify
“I love dance music and have really been enjoying Galantis, a Swedish duo, lately, especially their song “Faith,” possibly the only electronic dance song featuring my hero, Dolly Parton!”
