On April 22nd, Public Works and the Workforce Professionals Training Institute (WPTI) convened 55 workforce leaders in a virtual forum to discuss the realities faced by nonprofit providers during this crisis. Participants shared their experiences over the past two months, discussing methods for getting staff and clients up to speed with remote learning, working with employers to understand what, if any, workforce needs they’re anticipating, and determining how to manage funding and resources. This was the first in a series of convenings that will provide opportunities to share resources, support the community, and foster collaborative thinking around the future of workforce development. Below, we’ve summarized the themes that emerged from this first conversation, as well as questions to consider when looking to the future and recovery.
